Hi, STEM Posse ’16! I look forward to meeting you all and hearing your thoughts on Salt Sugar Fat. I am a senior Psychology major with minors in Biology and Neuroscience, and a primary interest in substance abuse research and policy. I plan to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience and/or an MD. Like Jessica, I read Salt Sugar Fat for my Intro to Biology course which focused on the physiology of eating – taught by the ever witty Professor Brodfuehrer. I appreciate Moss’ historical assessment of the food industry and its connection to research and ethics. The book raises as many questions as it does answers! When I’m not working in my carrel or the lab, I enjoy spending time with friends, writing, and perusing Wikipedia and Reddit. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or if you just wanna hang out and chat!

Hi Boston Posse 16! Firstly, welcome to Bryn Mawr. I am excited to meet and interact with you all! My name is Jessica Nguyen and I am a junior Biology major. I am also a part of Houston Posse 1. As a sophomore, our class also read Salt Sugar Fat as a reading requirement in our Intro to Biology class. It was mind blowing and was an interesting read that helped me to connect what I was learning in biology to my own personal life. In particular, after that semester I become more aware of the food industry and what I was putting into my body. I hope you can gain new perspective as I did from the book and from our discussions this semester. This book definitely opened my eyes to how powerful advertisement and product labeling are and how they affect the way we live. In addition, it challenged my thinking on how certain foods can become addicting. Aside from studying biology, I enjoy exploring new parts of Philadelphia, shopping at thrift stores, and collecting succulents. Please feel free to contact me about any questions you may have as you enter into Bryn Mawr!
